With the changing landscape of medicine, the healthcare environment places increasing demands on higher levels of scientific knowledge and practice expertise in the field of advanced nursing. The Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree fulfills a need for an alternative to the research-focused doctorates currently available. Jones & Bartlett Learning has developed the only online DNP curriculum featuring a suite of 12 online courses aligned to the The Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Nursing Practice Document and mapped to premier Jones & Bartlett Learning texts. Through partnership with subject matter experts and clinicians we have created first-class content and resources for instructors and students.

 

Instructors can integrate interactive online learning into textbook-based programs or teach the program through online-only media. All courses are mobile and tablet compatible for portability, and include full instructor support. In the near future we will be developing courses in the Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, Physical Assessment.

Healthcare Information Systems employs a multidisciplinary approach to informatics by incorporate nursing science, computer science and information science. The course also examines the resources and methods required to apply these technologies to clinical guidelines, communication systems and to enhance health care delivery. Students will have the opportunity to analyze information requirements, design system alternatives, and consider the management of resources.

Epidemiology

Epidemiology introduces students to the study of diseases and ill health through their patterns of occurrence in human populations. The course presents several approaches for estimating the burden of disease and evaluates primary, secondary and tertiary prevention strategies. Basic statistics around Epidemiology are also explored.

Biostatistics

Biostatistics covers the basic concepts in descriptive and inferential statistical methods. Topics include exploratory data analysis, central tendency, variability, score standardization, and the logic of hypothesis testing, including Student’s t-test for independent and related samples as well as the Z test for independent proportions.

 

Biostatistics also covers intermediate statistical concepts including analysis of variance (ANOVA) with planned comparisons and post-hoc tests, factorial ANOVA, bivariate linear correlation and regression, the chi-square tests for goodness of fit and association, the Mann-Whitney U test, and the essentials of sample size estimation. Throughout this course students will learn how to run menu driven procedures in Systat to carry out statistical computations.
